codependence)
noun
excessive emotional or psychological reliance on a partner, typically one who requires support on account of an illness or addiction: the tie that binds most of us together in this trap called codependency.
(2) Individuals with various disabilities, including intellectual and mental health disabilities, are at a significantly higher risk of sexual exploitation and abuse compared to the general population. Research consistently highlights this increased vulnerability due to a combination of systemic and individual factors, rather than a direct link to the sexual disorders themselves.
(3) Exploitation of minors involves taking advantage of a child's vulnerabilities for another person's benefit or profit, which can manifest as sexual, labor, or criminal exploitation. This is a severe crime and a fundamental violation of children's rights.
(4) Sex trafficking exploitation is defined under U.S. federal law as the recruitment, harboring, transportation, provision, or obtaining of a person for the purpose of a commercial sex act in which the act is induced by force, fraud, or coercion. Crucially, if the person is under 18 years of age, any commercial sex act is considered sex trafficking regardless of whether force, fraud, or coercion was involved, as a minor cannot legally consent.
Human trafficking is defined as the use of force, fraud, or coercion to compel a person to perform labor, services, or commercial sex acts. It is a form of modern-day slavery that can occur across international borders or within a person's own community or country.
